A panel will discuss recycling and trash concerns at the first in a series of program
meetings on Local Environmental Issues offered by the League of Women Voters
of the Edwardsville Area. The community is invited to the Thursday, April 18
meeting at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of St. John’s United Methodist Church,
7372 Marine Road, Edwardsville.


Panelists will provide information about local and retail recycling as well as
concerns related to the Roxana Landfill, and will address problems,
accomplishments and needed change. They will be open to questions from the
audience.


The five members of the panel are Dr. Rachel Tompkins, Moderator, longtime
LWVEA Member and former Chair of the Cool Cities Committee; Mike Wever,
Citizen Advocate and Administrator of the Roxana Landfill Local Issues Facebook
Group; Rusty Wheat, Civic Volunteer, a speaker and writer whose focus is
combating trash along the roads; Rhonda Breslin, Republic Services Municipal
Manager; and Jason Belt, Republic Services Division Manager.
Programs in May and August will cover plastic store bags, composting and food
waste and reuse.


LWVEA Monthly Programs are nonpartisan and any comments by the speakers
