VICTORY: voting rights restored!

Today the League is celebrating a historic legal victory that restores voting rights to nearly 60,000 people in our state who have been disenfranchised since 2011. The outcome of the Scott v. Bowen case is a major step in our struggle to achieve suffrage for ALL Californians!

But we’re not done yet. Your gift to the League makes sure that everyone who should vote, can vote.

I was proud to stand beside new Secretary of State Alex Padilla this morning as we shared today's wonderful news. The people whose rights have been restored today will be able to register as early as this fall—in time to vote next year!

But the fact remains that 60,000 formerly incarcerated people weren't allowed to vote in 2012 and 2014 because they were on post-release community supervision or mandatory supervision.

We don't want anyone else to be denied their voting rights for three years—or even three minutes. Every voter is important. And every election is important.

With your support, we'll be able to intervene again the next time anyone's voting rights are threatened in California.

Celebrate with us today—and stand up to new threats to our rights tomorrow.
