Every registered voter in California will receive a ballot in the mail about a month before Election Day. You can choose to return the ballot by mail, drop it off, or vote in person.
In-person voting locations will offer voter registration, replacement ballots, accessible voting machines, and language assistance to those who need it.

Your General Election ballot will include:
- 7 Ballot Propositions
- Statewide candidates for U.S. Senate, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Controller, Treasurer, Attorney General, Insurance Commissioner, Member of State Board of Equalization, State Superintendent of Public Instruction
- U.S. Representative in Congress, State Senator, State Assembly Member
- Supreme Court Justices, as well as other local candidates and local measures.
There are two contests for the U.S. Senate on this ballot. The two contests for U.S. Senate on this ballot are for different terms. You can vote for both contests:
- Full-term seat: 6-year term starting January 3, 2023 and ending January 3, 2029.
- Short-term seat: (Special Election): Term ending on January 3, 2023. This contest is to fill the remainder of the term Kamala Harris won in 2016, which ends in January 2023. The winner of this contest will hold the office until January 3, 2023. Alex Padilla is currently holding this seat. Governor Newsom appointed Padilla to fill this seat until the Special Election could be held.
Key dates:
- Last day to register to vote online for the November 8, 2022, General Election is October 24, 2022.
- County elections office will begin mailing ballots by October 10, 2022.
If you miss the Voter Registration deadline, you can still vote in this election. Go to any Voting Location to register and vote on the same day – all the way up through Election Day. If possible, find your assigned location at findmypollingplace.sos.ca.gov and go to that Voting Location to make sure you get a ballot with all your local contests. (If you need to register after the dealine and want to vote from home, contact the County Elections Office to find out how to register and get a vote by mail ballot through Election Day. - Return your vote-by-mail ballot by mail with prepaid postage as long as it's postmarked on or before Election Day and received by November 15, 2022, or in-person to a secure ballot drop box, to a voting location or your county elections office by 8:00 p.m. on November 8, 2022. - After returning your ballot, check WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov to find out where your ballot is in the process and when it has been accepted.
