Police Reform - A discussion of criminal justice and policing reform in our community
This session covered some of the most pressing concerns related to criminal justice and policing reform in our communities. The way we approach these subjects has irrevocably changed since the deaths of George Floyd and others, and the protests that have followed. Discussion will be focused on the LBPD union contract and the police budgeting process. We will also attempt to clarify appeals for "defunding the police".
Recent legislation regarding the placement of juvenile prisoners out of prisons and into the community will be addressed, including descriptions of the alternatives. Lastly, we will examine the criminal justice bills and propositions on the ballot for November 3, updates on AB392 and Nixthe6 efforts.
