Households began receiving invitations to respond to the 2020 Census between March 12-20. Additional reminders to respond are being mailed throughout the month. When you receive your invitation, you can respond online, by phone, or by mail. If a household does not respond to the 2020 Census, a census taker will follow up in person to collect their response. This will occur between May and July.
The 2020 Census will ask a few simple questions about you and everyone who is or will be living with you on April 1, 2020.
Bilingual invitations and paper questionnaires in English and Spanish have been sent in our area. However, you can complete the census online or by phone in 13 different languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Russian, Arabic, Tagalog, Polish, French, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, and Japanese.
If the census taker comes to your door and you are not there, you will receive a Notice of Visit. The notice will include an online response code to encourage you to self-respond.
Why is it important to complete the census questionnaire?
- For every person who does not complete the census, California could lose up to $10,000 in Federal funding every year for the next ten years.
- California could lose a representative in Congress due to an undercount
The time is now. Help shape your future, and your community's future, by responding to the 2020 Census.
