You are invited to meet local, award-winning author Robert P. J. Cooney, Jr. for an informative discussion and slide show on the successful grassroots political campaigns suffragists, including League of Women Voters founders, waged between 1910 and 1920 to win the vote for women. Learn about these powerful role models of women’s activism and the revolutionary change they managed to make despite tremendous opposition.
Mr. Cooney has studied American women’s nonviolent drive for equal rights for more than 25 years and has become a recognized expert on this historic nonviolent movement. The League of Women Voters turns 100 in 2020, as does the 19th Amendment that assures women’s right to vote. Mr. Cooney will give us insights into the critical role League members played in getting the 19th Amendment adopted. An open discussion will follow.
Both of Mr. Cooney’s books, Winning the Vote: The Triumph of the American Woman Suffrage Movement, and Remembering Inez: The Last Campaign of Inez Milholland, Suffrage Martyr, will be available for sale and he will be delighted to sign them.
Invite your friends, bring your “brown-bag” lunch and the League will provide drinks and dessert!
