Suffrage Turns 100: Women, Allies, and a Fight for Equality and Belonging at the Polls

Suffrage Turns 100: Women, Allies, and a Fight for Equality and Belonging at the Polls

Women's Suffrage Turns 100
Wednesday, July 8, 2020 - 1:00pm

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, Airbnb Women@ and the League of Women Voters will offer an honest look at the 100-year history and future of American women’s fight for equality at the polls. Historians will set the context of the early history of the Suffrage Movement from various perspectives that led to the amendment’s ratification on August 26, 1920 including the complicated rifts and allyship between the abolitionists and suffragists. Then, we’ll dive into the more recent history of women and voting, the racism and voter suppression that continued through the 1960s and beyond, and what it will take to continue to fight for true equality -- especially this election year.

The program will conclude with info on how to vote, and get involved in getting more voters to turn out in 2020.  Register here!
