Program Planning 2018
What are our top priorities? Which policies would you like to learn more about and advocate for?
Program Planning: Your Opportunity to Make Your Voices Heard
One of the most important things we do to start the New Year is to identify what activities/issues/subjects to concentrate on in the coming years. Grassroots program planning is a unique League feature. The program planning meeting is an every-member opportunity to review existing League positions and select the issues upon which the League will spend time, talent, energy and money.
We need your thoughts, your ideas and your opinions at the program planning meeting. This meeting is when we decide if new studies are needed or if old positions need to be updated. Dropping a position is also an option. We look at all levels. We also look at local issues to decide what we wish to focus on and if we want to make a local formal study and position on anything. Our positions are core to the League and our role as as a leader in advocacy and education nationwide. We follow legislation at county, state and national levels and lobby or take action on positions we hold. This yearly review helps us to prepare to have a meaningful organization that represents all of you. During the process, members have the opportunity to organize support for topics of concern.
Come to this meeting and be part of selecting issues that are important, lively and relevant, and important to you, and ensure that the League will have an impact on the significant policy issues facing our community, our state and our country. Help us set the course for our action and your participation for the coming year!
One of the program proposals we will be considering is Artificial Intelligence and its economic and social impacts. Please review this information before the meeting and let us know what you think:

Annual Elected Officials Reception
The League of Women Voters of Palos Verdes Peninsula/San Pedro once again teamed with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce to host the Annual Elected Officials Reception. On November 17, 2017, League members gathered at the Pt. Vicente Interpretive Center in Rancho Palos Verdes to meet state and local elected officials and to thank them for their time and their service to our community. It was standing room only!
The League was honored to welcome:
- State Senator Ben Allen,
- State Senator Steve Bradford,
- State Assembly member Al Muratsuchi,
- County Supervisor Janice Hahn,
- and elected officials from the cities of Palos Verdes Estates Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates, the Palos Verdes Library District and the Palos Verdes Unified School District.
This event is a very special opportunity for our community to say "Thank You" to our elected officials for their service. Each one of our elected officials gives their time, their energy and their talents to make our community a better place to live and work. They sacrifice personal time, family time and economic opportunities to serve us. We are honored to the opportunity to have them join us for this special event, and we are honored to have them as our representatives.
