Voter Services: October Report (Our Voice Matters)

“Our Voice Matters” sponsored by American Pacific Islanders American Public Affairs (APAPA) and multiple other community organizations and business was held 9/29/2019 at CSUS.  There were approximately 250 attendees from Sacramento and surrounding areas.  The team of LWV voter registration volunteers were: Theresa Riviera, Kae Lewis, Cary Hart, Delores Campbell, JoAnne French, Patricia Pavon, Marie Nitz, Kris Rekdahl and Brenda Main. They provided voter registration forms and voter education.  The event included: awards to Asian Leaders in Public Office; Voter education by the Registrar’s Office, Census information and a panel of Asian women in public office.  The panel included Ling Ling Chang, State Senator, Lily Mel, Mayor of Fremont, Porches Middleton, council member Citrus Heights, Bobbie Singh-Allen Elk Grove USD board trustee and Zima Creason, JSJUSD Board member.    The women spoke to the importance of not being fearful to seek office, learning how to turn “no” into a positive action and the importance of having a strong mother and being a strong mother.
