If you want to join the all day tour on May 8th to Tijuana focused on deportation, you must have a valid passport which does not expire until after November 8, 2018. We will carpool from the office to the border and park in secure lots, walk across and pick up a bus in Tijuana. Since the new pedestrian crossing has been installed, this is a much shorter way to cross the border.
We will then walk across the border up and down a ramp for four blocks to pick up a charter bus in Tijuana at 9:45 am.
Stops will include:
- Friendship Park
- Ejercito de Salvacion, a shelter for men
- Casa Puerte de Esperanza, a shelter for women – water and coffee plus little cakes called pandulce will be served. There will be speakers from the Salvation Army, a call center, and the Deported Veterans Support House.
- Late Mexican buffet in a restaurant
- Offices of Unified U.S. Deported Veterans and Mothers and Families: Deportees in Action with speakers from both groups
We will then walk two blocks back to the ramp at the border and cross back into the U.S. and walk two blocks to the parking lot. We should arrive back at the League office about 6:00 p.m.
Bring your passport, any drinks or snacks you want, a pen, tissues and some cash for parking. Carpool drivers will need a credit card.
Cost: The cost is $85 and covers the bus, snacks at the shelter, bus leader, lunch, printing, and donations to participating organizations in Tijuana.
