Summary of December 6th Board Meeting

  • Climate Change Forum - LWVC Regional Climate Change Forum is currently scheduled for Saturday, March 28 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm in Santa Barbara. The forum will feature presenters from the LWVC Climate Change Task Force who will discuss the issues and related talking points.

  • Membership - We currently have 118 paid members. The board is working on a new members event for January or February.

  • Survey – The Communications Committee will be sending out a survey to all members asking for their input on their relationship to the League. It is important to get input from all members, so when you receive the survey, please respond. Phone calls will be made to follow up with people who do not respond online.

  • Holiday Fundraiser – The League made about $750 at the Holiday party and fundraiser at Humankind.

  • 2020 Anniversary Events - Special events are planned for February 22, June 4, and August 22 next year. The Library of Congress exhibit on the 19th Amendment which will be at the SLO County Library in May. League members will be asked to sell tickets to the February 22nd luncheon and to the June 4 Wonderettes fundraiser at SLO Rep.

  • Upcoming Board meetings – This is the tentative line up for speakers at future board meetings:
    January 10 - Ms. Olin from the US Census Bureau
    February 7 - Jon Haveman from the National Economic Education Delegation (NEED)
    March 6 - Diz Swift from the LWVC Climate Change Task Force
    April 3 - LynAnne Wiest from HumanKind Fair Trade

  • Film Showing - The Santa Barbara Film Festival, which is showing Sky Bergman’s Forever Voters film, will run from March 17 to 22, 2020.

  • Census Recruitment - On January 9, 2019 from 10-11:30am the US Census Bureau is hosting a local enumerator recruitment event at the SLO County Government Center at 1055 Monterey St in SLO. We encourage anyone interested in working as a Census enumerator to attend. Information about the event can be found on the County’s website here: Feel free to pass this information along to anyone you believe may be interested, including any trusted messengers who would like to be involved in enumeration activities.
