L.A. City Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) Opens Next Week

The City of LA's Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) will be launching on March 30.  [This is for the City of LA, which includes Harbor Gateway, Harbor City and San Pedro.] 
 
Application Information
Administered by the Housing & Community Investment Department (HCID), ERAP provides federal and state emergency rental assistance funds to assist low-income renters who have been unable to pay their rent due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rental assistance will be distributed by lottery with the first round of funding anticipated to be distributed by April 9th.
 
Both landlords and low-income renters living in the City of Los Angeles may apply, regardless of immigration status
 
From 8am next Tuesday, March 30 through 11:59pm on April 30, 2021, applications will be available in multiple languages at hcidla.lacity.org. There will also be phone support available in multiple languages, and TTY for persons with hearing or speech impairments. Please go to hcidla.lacity.org for more information.
 
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible, renters must be :
  • Residents of the City of Los Angeles, regardless of immigration status. To verify that an address is in the City of Los Angeles go to neighborhoodinfo.lacity.org;
  • One or more adults within the household must have qualified for unemployment benefits or experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or experienced other financial hardship due, directly or indirectly, to the COVID-19 outbreak; and
  • The household income must be at or below 50% of the area median income (AMI), with priority given to households with incomes below 30% AMI.  You can find information on 30% and 50% AMI incomes below.**
Attached is a flyer in English and Spanish that summarizes the program.  We will be sending an updated flyer (as soon as it becomes available) with the hotline number that people can use to apply for the program by phone if they don’t have internet or need further assistance.  We will also have flyers available in other languages.  Also attached is the press release about the program.
**Income Limits for Los Angeles for ERAP (30%, 50% AMI per HUD guidelines)
(ERAP is available to households with incomes no more than 50% AMI and prioritizes households with incomes of no more than 30% AMI)
