The City of Torrance is contemplating some new City Charter revisions that have significant impact on the City Attorney, City Manager, City Clerk and City Treasurer. 

Recommendation of the City Attorney that the City Council:

1. Consider the methods to amend the City Charter and give direction to staff on the method the City Council prefers; and
2. Direct staff on potential timelines and election dates; and
3. Direct staff on potential amendments to the City Charter

ACTION: Council directed staff to advertise for public hearing at either the August 20 or August 27 City Council meeting to consider charter amendments for the March 3, 2020 election: numbers 1,2,5,6,7,8, and research 9, and an amendment regarding if the Mayor becomes incapacitated. Charter amendments listed as numbers 3 and 4 will go at the November 5, 2020 Election.
