The redistricting process is well underway in California. This month, the first-ever LA County Redistricting Commission is beginning its public hearings and wants to hear from community members like YOU! At these hearings, the Commissioners will gather input about your communities and use that input to draw new districts that will be in place for the next decade!
Share your input with the Los Angeles County Commission this summer -- their first virtual hearing is coming up this Monday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m!
To learn how to participate in the upcoming meetings or submit a public comment to the Commission, you can visit the LA County Redistricting Commission website here. Monday’s hearing is the first of 10 County hearings planned throughout the summer as the County will be holding hearings from June 14 - August 22.
Sharing your “community of interest” testimony at a redistricting hearing at the local level is a powerful way of shaping your community’s district maps for the next decade to come. It is critical that your voice is heard during this process. During the LA County Commission public hearings, you will be asked to describe your community. Here are ways you could describe your community --
- Begin by identifying your home county or city
- Mention the street names and significant locations in your neighborhood to help identify the parameters of your community.
- Identify your community’s shared interests.
- Share which nearby neighborhoods that your community is similar to, or different from.
- Share what makes your community special.
To help you voice your opinion about your community, we’ve created a community of interest template that you can use. We’ve also created a hub of redistricting resources to help you stay engaged with the redistricting process here.
Your input is vital to the success of the redistricting process. Please share this email with your friends, colleagues, and family members to encourage them to participate in this once-in-a-decade process.
