Fire Drill Fridays Comes to Wilmington in the Los Angeles Harbor Area!

After 14 weeks of Fire Drill Fridays in Washington, DC, Jane Fonda and Greenpeace USA have taken Fire Drill Fridays to California! We’re doing monthly Fire Drills – on the first Friday of each month – in different locations around California. In February, we came together with the Last Chance Alliance at Los Angeles City Hall to call on California Governor Gavin Newsom to step up on climate. Next up, we’re bringing Fire Drill Fridays to the heart of the oil and gas impacts in Wilmington, L.A., on March 6th, to send a loud and clear message that the health of communities and the climate are of far more importance than the fossil fuel industry! And you’re invited!

The rally will be at Joe Buscaino’s office, which is in the San Pedro Harbor District Office Building located in Wilmington, District 15, in the Los Angeles harbor area.

Why Wilmington?

Wilmington, Los Angeles is a prime example of why Governor Newsom must prioritize the health and safety of Californians over the profits of fossil fuel companies. In Wilmington right now, oil and gas companies are putting families at risk with toxic drilling practices — some of the neighborhood ranks among the top 5% of communities with the highest pollution exposure in the state! It’s making people sick and putting the world at risk by locking in the worst effects of climate change.

Fossil Fuels are strangling our communities and our democracy. The world is literally burning, from the Amazon to Australia, and fossil fuels are the biggest contributor to that.

When our house is on fire, as Greta Thunberg said, what do you do? Join Jane and Fire Drill Fridays friends on March 6th as we demand a just transition off of fossil fuels, a Green New Deal, 2500 foot sebacks, and No New Fossil Fuels!! The event is being hosted by Greenpeace USA, Communities For A Better Environment, and Stand Together Against Neighborhood Drilling .

About Us: Fire Drill Fridays was launched in October 2019 by Jane Fonda and Greenpeace US, to give adults a place to heed the call of the youth to show up in solidarity and demand climate action. We are calling for a rapid phase-out of fossil fuels & just transition, no new fossil fuel projects, and a green new deal. For the months of January to July, Fire Drill Fridays will take place on the first Friday of every month in cities and towns across California, in partnership with the Last Chance Alliance, who share the same goals; Fire Drill Fridays has enthusiastically adopted the additional call to Governor Newsom to roll-out 2500 foot health and safety buffers between oil and gas infrastructure and homes, schools and other sensitive sites.

Want to take the next step? Following the rally, a smaller group will be taking part in a demonstration where the risk of arrest is possible. Sign up for a training here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSctjdI0uC8morlXatNltR0XRGErHa0Uto1msDk69yHCo29Q9A/viewform
