Our candidate forum rules call for civility on the part of both candidates and the audience. The hallmark of democracy is the willingness of our community to treat each other with courtesy and respect. It is in that spirit that we are here this evening to engage in a vital part of our democratic process, a civilized discussion of the important issues that confront our communities.
CANDIDATE RULES OF CIVILITY:
- Proxies will not be permitted.
- To preserve an impartial atmosphere, campaign literature and other election items may not be displayed or distributed prior to or during the forum. We will have tables available for material to be distributed after the meeting has concluded.
- Candidates must inform their supporters of the rules to insure aa forum which is fair to all.
- Candidates need to focus on personal qualifications and positions. Personal attacks, innuendos, or disparaging remarks regarding other candidates will not be accepted.
AUDIENCE RULES OF CIVILITY:
- Audience questions will be collected at the start of and throughout the evening. They will be sorted by a panel of League committee members based on relevancy to the office and topic/redundancy. A representative set of questions will be used to encompass as wide of an array of topics that can be covered in the allotted time. Questions must not contain inappropriate language or disparaging remarks. Questions should be of general interest and cover issues, not personalities. All questions will be asked by the moderator.
- Candidates and their supporters will be asked not to wear any campaign badges, tee shirts, etc., during the forum. Only after the forum will candidate literature be allowed to be placed on the tables provided outside the meeting room.
- All cell phones must be turned off.
- Do not videotape this event. This forum will be videotaped by the League. The League will run video with no editing, from beginning to end, in compliance with Federal Communications Commission rules.

To maintain city services such as fire/ paramedic/ public safety/ 9-1-1 response, safe schools; protect local drinking water sources/ coastal waters from pollution; keep parks/ public areas safe/ clean; repair streets/ potholes; prevent thefts/ property crime; maintain senior services; and address homelessness, shall the City of Torrance ordinance be adopted establishing a ½¢ sales tax for general government use, generating approximately $18,000,000 annually until ended by voters, requiring public spending disclosure, independent audits, all funds locally controlled?
