Title: League of Women Voters Holds Semi-Annual Meeting

Stacie Burton from the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial Association will be the guest speaker at the League of Women Voters of Sussex County’s Semi-Annual Meeting on November 16, at 2:00 p.m., at the Rehoboth Beach History Museum, 511 Rehoboth Ave in Rehoboth Beach. Members of the League welcome guests to join them to learn about plans for creating a memorial to honor suffragists whose courage and commitment led to passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The national memorial will highlight the bravery of women who were imprisoned at Occoquan, VA, where they endured harsh conditions and suffered abuse in their quest for voting rights for women. Looking to the suffragists as role models, the Turning Point Institute plans to offer a range of programs to empower young people to become leaders and advocates for social justice.

As a nonpartisan organization, the League of Women Voters is open to everyone interested in good government, regardless of gender or political affiliation. A brief meeting for business will precede the Turning Point presentation. For more information, go to www.sussexlwv.org.
