Since January 2015, the League of Women Voters of Sussex County's Land Use Committee has focused on educating the public regarding their pivotal role in the drafting of the state-mandated 2018 Comprehensive Plan, designed to create a roadmap for future county development.  The committee held sixteen public forums with panels of expert speakers between 2015 and 2018 to encourage public involvement.

Sussex County Council adopted its 2018 comprehensive land-use plan update in December.   The plan has not officially been approved by the governor's office, but Sussex County Council is moving forward and taking steps to prioritize some of the more than 300 action items included in the plan.

An article in the Cape Gazette entitled, "Sussex getting close to comp plan completion", by Ron MacArthur, addresses the five priorities on which the council has reached consensus: Delaware Department of Transportation issues; economic development; open space; agriculture; and telecommunications.

The Cape Gazette article, dated 3/8/19 is available here.
