The Pursuit of Fairness in Education--Equity, Diversity, and Title IX

Lee County has a complicated history from Court Ordered Desegregation to the present.  Our Panel of Experts will help us understand where we are and where we need to be.  Panelists include Precious Gunter, FGCU Director of Equity, Ethics & Compliance and Title IX Coordinator; Chuck Bradley, Lee County School District Director of Positive Prevention; A student serving on the Lee County Student Advisory Council; Dr. Shirley Chapman, Chairperson of the Lee NAACP’s Education Committee.  
 
Precious Gunter holds a B.S. in Human Resource Management from the University of South Carolina and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from North Carolina Central University School of Law where she served as Senior Editor for the Law Review. Prior to coming to FGCU, she was an Adjunct Ethics Instructor for Virginia College and a Staff Attorney for Legal Aid of North Carolina. Precious Gunter is now Director of Equity, Ethics, and Compliance and Title IX Coordinator for FGCU. She is the designated Chief Compliance Officer and oversees adherence, awareness and training for state and federal discrimination laws including sex, race, age, disability, and religion. She chairs three committees: Title IX, Diversity and Inclusion, and Compliance Liaison.
 
Dr. Shirley Chapman is a lifelong educator whose thirty plus year experience includes teaching at the elementary and secondary levels, administrative leadership in various Lee District Schools, and has multi-tasked in various positions, including serving as a principal of a charter school.  Her passions include mentoring teachers in effective curriculum strategies to ensure inclusion, diversity and ongoing training in ESE, and innovative discipline strategies.  She is an experienced presenter and speaker for many diverse community groups.
 
Chuck Bradley is a passionate veteran educator and administrator, Chuck Bradley brings over 34 years of experience in Florida statewide as a teacher, administrator, and assistant superintendent roles. Chuck Bradley now is Director of Positive Prevention for the School District of Lee County and District Equity Coordinator for students. His duties include the implementation of Section 504 equity for students with disabilities, Title IX for gender equity, and supports Title VI implementation for racial equity. He is certified by the Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA), and is an experienced conference presenter for Equity issues including LGBTQ equity.
