The League of Women Voters of Lee County Florida invites the public to Presidential Elections…Making Every Vote Equal, an educational program on The National Popular Vote (NPV) movement in the U.S.; the history of the Electoral College; and why many believe the current process of electing the US President and Vice President should be changed.

Featured speaker Deb Mazzaferro is a member of the League of Women Voters of Florida National Popular Vote Committee.

Ms. Mazzaferro is a Subject Matter Expert trained by the National Popular Vote (Dr. John Koza) the originators of the bill that currently has passed 15 jurisdictions amassing 196 Electors of the 270 needed for the compact to go into effect.  In 2017, members of the League of Women Voters formed a state-wide committee that is now a coalition called Floridians for National Popular Vote. Coalition members include Common Cause Florida, National Popular Vote, and Make Every Vote Matter.

The League of Women Voters of the United States believes that the direct-popular-vote method for electing the President and Vice President is essential to representative government and supports the use of the National Popular Vote Compact as one acceptable way to achieve the goal of the direct popular vote for election of the president.  The LWV of Florida supports the election of the President and Vice president by direct popular vote and supports the National Popular Vote Compact (LWVUS).  The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact guarantees the president and vice president are elected by the national popular vote. NPVIC preserves the Electoral System while assuring the votes of Americans in all 50 states count equally.

The League is working to educate the public and legislators about the benefits of legislation that would instruct our electors to vote for the Presidential candidate who captures the most votes in all 50 states.
