LWV Chicago's Committee on Diversity and Inclusion is sponsoring a discussion group that will meet on the second Monday of each month from 6-8 p.m at the LWV Chicago offices. This year the group will explore Racial Equity and Justice: Learning How to Move Forward.
Each session will center around a text. Participants should have read some portion of the book, writings by the author, or reviews of the book to have some knowledge of what’s being discussed. Be prepared to have your concept of race and racism challenged.
The texts and meeting dates currently scheduled are as follows:
March 11 Waking Up White, and Finding Myself in the Story of Race by Debbie Irving
April 8th White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism
by Robin DiAngelo
May 13 Lifting As They Climbed: Mapping a History of Black Women on
RSVP to lwvchicagocodi [at] gmail.com if you are interested in any of these sessions. Separate invitations will be sent to each meeting.
