Study Opportunity for Members of LWV of Downers Grove, Woodridge, and Lisle
Donna Prepejchal is initiating a local Mental Health Board Study. The purpose is to determine if establishing a 708 Mental Health Board by referendum could aid in the prevention of and treatment for developmental disabilities, mental illness, and addiction problems in our community. For information and to join the study, contact dprepejcha [at] comcast.net.
A 708 Board is a Community Mental Health Board governed by the Illinois Community Health Act. Funding is through property tax. The 7-9 member volunteer boards are appointed for 4 year terms.
Study Committee members are needed to help plan and carry out research on this topic. It involves developing questions, reading, writing, editing, and possibly conducting interviews. Research will be done September-November 2021 and final editing and preparation for our local consensus will be done January and February 2022.
There is a movement to establish 708 boards in all 9 Townships of DuPage County. Bloomingdale and Milton have succeeded. Lisle Township has a referendum question for November 2022 Election.
