The League letter of support was read into public comment at today's DuPage County Board meeting. Clerk Kaczmarek reached out to let us know she is very appreciative.
Dear EDITOR,
As many municipalities approach their local elections in April, the League of Women Voters in Dupage County would like to pause and acknowledge the outstanding work of the Dupage County Election Commission who successfully held a free, fair and safe election in the midst of historic turnout and complicated by Covid-19.
The November 3, 2020 election was the most ever cast in an election and DuPage was no exception.
The staff at the Dupage County Election Commission works year round to provide fair, accurate and transparent elections. This past year, they worked under very challenging workplace conditions overseeing a historic voter turnout in the midst of the pandemic that also saw record early voting and a flood of vote-by-mail applications and ballots.
Facing an historic election in the face of a raging pandemic, Jean Kaczmarek, the Dupage County Clerk and her staff worked seven days a week, complying with CDC guidelines to ensure that all residents were provided the opportunity to vote safely. Ms. Kazmarek worked diligently to update and modernize the Dupage elections systems—she directed her efforts to acquire new E-Poll books and a new automated ballot sorter. Ms. Kaczmarek also modernized petition filing procedures for all candidates. Further, the team helped ensure a sufficient number of election judges through lobbying the board to approve doubling the compensation and holding judge training both online and in-person.
During the past year, Ms. Kaczmarek and her team were also very responsive to the League of Women Voters DuPage chapters during the ever-changing climate of this election. We applaud her and her staff's commitment and dedication and we value our partnership with the Dupage County Election Commission to provide fair and safe elections for the residents of DuPage County.
