On behalf of the board of directors, I would like to introduce you to Azisti Dembowski, our new LWVIL executive director. A proven leader, Azisti’s experience and expertise will help us lay the foundation for our second century. She comes to LWVIL with an extensive background in administration, finance, and development, in both academic and nonprofit settings. She holds an MBA in Finance and Strategic Management from University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. Most recently, Azisti was director of administrative operations for the University of Illinois at Chicago’s department of pediatrics.
Azisti’s own words are perhaps the best introduction:
“Empowerment, Activism and Equity. As I accept this role, these words will resonate with me when I collaborate and make decisions. To be able to make an impact is an honor and I welcome this opportunity, with the support of like-minded women, to create positive change and social impact.
I hope to enhance and raise our profile to the outside world, fundraise and continue to grow our membership, optimize our financial operations, and provide leadership and implement policies and programs to carry out the mission work of LWVIL. As the Executive Director, I intend to uphold LWVIL’s vision and stay true to its mission.”
Monday, May 24 is Azisti’s first day with LWVIL as she begins working with the board to gain a full understanding of the League’s mission and operations. Three short weeks later she will “meet” us as a League during convention. After convention, we will arrange a series of Town Hall zoom meetings so that local League members can meet Azisti in small settings. And of course, as our world returns to something like normal, she will have the opportunity to meet many of you personally.
What an auspicious way to begin our 60th biennium!
Best wishes,
