Will you vote…

By mail?

In person early?

In person on Election Day?

It’s a good idea to plan ahead!

If you use a mail-in ballot, return your completed ballot as soon as possible by USPS, secure drop box, or in person:

•    USPS: Your ballot must be postmarked by November 3, but don’t wait until the last minute! It is best to allow at least two weeks for your completed ballot to reach the McHenry County Clerk’s office.

•    Secure drop box: Your county will post on its web site the secure drop boxes’ locations, dates they will be available, and other helpful information. The dates and locations will vary; many secure drop boxes will be inside early voting Locations starting October 19. No postage will be needed to return your completed ballot via drop box. ID maybe requested.

  • In person delivery to an election authority: Check McHenry County Clerk’s web site for locations and office hours.

Go to: https://www.mchenrycountyil.gov/home/showdocument?id=100568

  •  If you wish to vote in person before Election Day: Early voting is widely available October 19 - November 2, though a few locations begin earlier. Check McHenry County Clerk’s  web site for updated information.

About your Vote by Mail ballot:

  • Instructions will accompany your ballot. Read and carefully follow those instructions.
  • Be careful not to mar the ballot or its envelope. Be sure to seal the envelope.
  • The signature on your ballot will be verified and must match your signature that is on record with McHenry County.
  • First time voters who registered by mail or online may need to include photocopies of acceptable ID with their ballot. Refer to the instructions included with the ballot.
  • If you rely on a family member or other trusted person to return your ballot, a form that is included with the ballot must be completed; both of you must sign it.
  • Voters returning Vote by Mail ballots addressed to McHenry County will need to affix the proper postage.
  • Remember: Your ballot must be physically returned or postmarked by November 3. Be aware that mail placed in a mailbox may not be postmarked that same day.
  • Don’t wait until the last minute!

Changed your mind about voting by mail?

That’s OK. If you request a mail-in ballot and do not use it, you must bring the ballot and its envelope to your voting location and turn it in so you can vote in person with a regular ballot; otherwise you will be given a provisional ballot so the county can make sure your mail-in ballot was not used. You may need to sign a form at the polling place.
