The program will be presented by Chief Christopher Mannino of the Park Forest Police.   He will speak about gun control including what "conceal carry" really means.   He also will address crime reported in the south suburbs.

Gun control laws can be complicated, both at the federal and state levels. In Illinois, gun control prohibits the sale, use, or possession of certain weapons outright, including fully automatic machine guns, armor-piercing bullets, and silencers. Laws here impose a three-day (72 hours) waiting period for prospective gun buyers and require buyers and users to meet certain eligibility criteria for gun ownership. There are strict penalties for illegally possessing guns in specific locations, such as schools.  Chief Mannino will explain how these laws apply.

Christopher Mannino has over 24 years in law enforcement.  He has served in a wide variety of law enforcement roles throughout his career, including assignments in the patrol division, investigations division, administration division, special operations, as the Field Training Coordinator, and as a team leader with a regional Mobile Field Force. He holds a master’s degree in Political and Justice studies from Governors State University and is a graduate of the 237th session of the FBI National Academy, an international executive police leadership course where he was chosen by his classmates as a section representative.  Chief Mannino serves on the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Executive Board, the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Diversity Committee, the South Suburban Association Chiefs of Police Executive Board, Illinois Representative Anthony DeLuca’s Public Safety Committee, and on the Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency Police Chiefs’ Steering Committee. He is also an instructor on law enforcement communication and public relations, teaching at law enforcement training units across the country.
