Winnetka Walks Against Racism

Walks Against Racism
Two groups that include many Village residents have informed the Village of their intent to organize peaceful, socially-distant walks against racism on Saturday, June 6 from 10 AM to 12:15 PM. These are similar to other peaceful events that have been held in the past week in Evanston, Glenview, Lake Forest, Deerfield, and Lake Bluff.

While these are not Village events, we are working cooperatively with the organizers to ensure the demonstration is safe for everyone and that order is preserved. The Constitutional right to freely assemble on public property is important to uphold.

Participants in the first walk plan to meet at New Trier East and walk to the Village Green at 10 AM. Participants in the second walk plan to meet at Dwyer Park at 11 AM, walk to the Village Green, and hold a silent vigil at 12 PM. The organizers ask that only healthy individuals join the events, that masks be worn, and social distance be maintained.

Village staff and the Winnetka Police Department will be present for traffic control and to ensure that the events remain safe for all involved.

If LWV/W-N-K members want to meet up, march with the LWV, possibly, also help  other LWV register voters, take a sign-up list for those who want to be contacted about LWV/W-N-K, they should contact W-N-K member Katie Scullion, Katie [at] scullionconsulting.com or (312) 505-4673
