LWV-Greater Lafayette part of new voting coalition to "Get Out The Vote"

LWV-Greater Lafayette part of new voting coalition to "Get Out The Vote"

Time Range For Action Alert:
July 15, 2020 to August 14, 2020

Six local groups have come together to form the Tippecanoe Voting Alliance (TVA), an alliance of non-partisan organizations in Tippecanoe County working together to GET OUT THE VOTE. The groups, to date, that have joined this effort are the Greater Lafayette American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Greater Lafayette Indivisible, the Greater Lafayette Chapter of the Indiana Black Expo (GLIBE), the Lafayette/West Lafayette Branch National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the League of Women Voters of Greater Lafayette (LWVGL),  and PRIDE Lafayette, Inc.

“Our main objectives focus on the November 3, 2020 election. They are voter accessibility, voter education, and voter activation,” stated Ken Jones, Voter Services Chair for the League of Women Voters of Greater Lafayette. Voter accessibility focuses on assuring every citizen who is qualified to have a chance to register to vote, request an absentee ballot or has access to an in-person voting site. Voter education includes candidate debates, candidate voter guides, awareness of voting locations and times, and how to properly submit an absentee ballot, and training on how to fill out an absentee ballot. And voter activation is the call out to Tippecanoe County voting populations to make sure that they vote! “By coming together and sharing resources we can accomplish so much more in ensuring all voters who are registered have an opportunity to have their voices heard in the upcoming election,” noted Jones.

Activities in July and August will focus on voter registration and applying for absentee ballots. TVA’s first voter registration effort will take place at the Gallery Walk on Friday, July 17, in downtown Lafayette, located at the PRIDE offices at 640 Main Street. Also, TVA will be developing and delivering voter registration and absentee ballot application training via Zoom video. Moving to an online education platform recognizes the realities of Covid-19 necessary restrictions but also allows the group to provide this vital information to any interested group any time of day.

If you are interested in having voter registration at your organization or business please contact Lisa Dullum at email [at] lafayetteindivisible.com or (765) 532-2164.
