WASHINGTON — The League of Women Voters of the United States is pleased to announce Brooke Leonard as its new chief of staff. Brooke brings over 15 years of nonprofit and association management experience to the League and will oversee strategic operations, board relations, and organizational effectiveness. She joins the League at a pivotal time as the organization continues to expand its impact on voting rights and work to defend democracy.

“We are proud to have Brooke join the League as our new chief of staff to lead our organizational strategy and administration,” said Celina Stewart, CEO of the League of Women Voters of the United States. “Brooke is the force of nature we need for the internal and external work critical to the League’s success. Her proven track record of driving organizational transformation and building powerful coalitions makes her the right choice to strengthen our work to defend democracy. With her wealth of experience managing complex projects and cultivating cross-sector partnerships, we’re confident she will contribute significantly to our mission to safeguard democracy.”

Brooke is an accomplished organizational leader with immense success in strategic execution and nonprofit management. At the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), she led the implementation of inclusive programs across museums nationwide, focusing on social impact and equity while building strategic partnerships with federal agencies and advocacy groups — experience crucial for advancing voting rights and strengthening democratic participation.

“It’s exciting to be a part of such a defining moment for voting rights and democracy in our nation,” said Brooke Leonard. “I am deeply honored to join Celina and the League of Women Voters team to help strengthen its mission of protecting every American’s right to vote. The League’s legacy of nonpartisan advocacy is inspiring, and I look forward to continuing the diligent work of the League of promoting and defending democracy and uplifting the voices within our organization.”

Before joining the League, Brooke served in multiple leadership positions at AAM, including vice president of strategic initiatives and chief of staff for nearly a decade. There, she demonstrated exceptional crisis management during COVID-19, including overseeing field-wide advocacy efforts that united over 40 partner organizations and secured three billion in federal relief funding. Her expertise in board governance has dramatically enhanced board effectiveness and strengthened member engagement in her prior roles.

Throughout her career, Brooke has focused on creating a more equitable world, driving positive change within communities, and building the frameworks that enable organizations to thrive in fulfilling their missions. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Bryn Mawr College and a master’s degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
