WASHINGTON — The League of Women Voters will host more than 750 voter registration events this year in recognition of National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, September 16.
National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), a civic holiday celebrated annually on the third Tuesday of September, brings organizations together to register hundreds of thousands of voters on a single day. The League, a 105-year-old voting rights organization, has been participating in National Voter Registration Day since its inception in 2012 and has consistently been the largest on-the-ground partner.
“The League is proud to host hundreds of registration events every year on National Voter Registration Day,” said Dianna Wynn, president of the League of Women Voters. “This national day of celebration is an opportunity for community groups, organizations, and individuals to come together to recognize the importance of registering to vote and checking your voter registration.”
This year, the League of Women Voters launched an interactive online map featuring local League voter registration events across the country. The tool allows users to search for their local League registration event by name or zip code, empowering voters to join events in their community.
This NVRD, more than 600 Leagues will hold in-person and virtual voter registration events and encourage people to check their registration status ahead of Election Day, highlighting the importance of voters making their voices heard in this year’s election. Leagues will engage voters at high schools, colleges and universities, libraries, and more.
"The League of Women Voters is excited to host hundreds of events in communities across the country for National Voter Registration Day," said Jeanette Senecal, chief of Civic Learning and Impact. "Voters in more than 35 states still have the chance to shape the future of their communities in meaningful ways this year. The League is proud to partner with NVRD to make sure every eligible voter knows that there is no such thing as an ‘off year’ when it comes to democracy.”
The League of Women Voters works year-round, every year, to ensure that all Americans have equal access to the ballot. The League serves voters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia in over 750 communities across the country. Nationwide, Leagues lead hundreds of voter registration events each year, host candidate forums, and distribute education materials through their nonpartisan voter education tool, VOTE411.org. Through VOTE411, eligible voters can register to vote, find their polling place, learn about candidates, and more.
