AUSTIN, TX & WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the League of Women Voters of Texas and the League of Women Voters of the US issued the following joint statement in response to devastating flooding in Central Texas over the weekend.
“The League of Women Voters mourns with the families and communities who lost loved ones and whose lives have been forever changed by this weekend's flooding in Central Texas. This tragedy underscores the urgent need for increased resources, robust systems, and well-coordinated responses to natural disasters.
“We are seeing a rise in climate-related disasters in recent years, which will only continue due to our still-unaddressed climate crisis. Now is the time to increase investment in weather information, research, and emergency communication systems — not cut public safety resources as the Trump administration did earlier this year.
"May we all come together to demand climate action that will protect our people and our future.”
