WASHINGTON — Claudia Ortega Hogue has been appointed to the national board of directors of the League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS), bringing her deep expertise and commitment to civic engagement to the organization’s leadership. A lifelong advocate for community empowerment and a seasoned nonprofit leader, Ortega Hogue brings over 25 years of experience across the nonprofit, government, higher education, engineering, and construction sectors. 

“Claudia’s trailblazing leadership and proven ability to build inclusive coalitions make her an invaluable addition to our national board,” said Dianna Wynn, president of LWVUS. “Her deep commitment to empowering underserved communities aligns perfectly with our mission of defending democracy and expanding civic participation.”

Currently serving as the executive vice president of SSP Engineering and Consulting and president of Innovative Construction, Ortega Hogue leads strategic growth initiatives, cultivates high-impact partnerships, and advances infrastructure development across Texas. Additionally, as the founder and CEO of Global Communities Houston, LLC, she works to build networks that connect the city’s diverse and underserved communities through education, outreach, and awareness.

Ortega Hogue made history as the first Latina president of the League of Women Voters of Houston, leading groundbreaking outreach, voter education, and democracy protection programs. Her civic service has also included serving as district director for Congresswoman Sylvia R. García (TX-29), where she strengthened community relationships and collaborated across city, county, state, and federal levels.

Ortega Hogue serves on several nonprofit boards and advisory councils, including AVANCE-Houston, Houston ToolBank, the National Immigration Forum, Bonding Against Adversity, and Fit Houston. She has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Houston Business Journal’s 2025 “Women to Watch,” the Community Leader Award by the Houston Hispanic Architects & Engineers, and being named one of the Top 30 Influential Women of Houston by the Top 30 Women Magazine in 2024.
