WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the League of Women Voters Education Fund is proud to announce that it will assume the Managing Partner role of Election Hero Day, a collaborative and nonpartisan national day of celebration recognizing the tremendous contributions that election officials, their staff, and poll workers make to ensure a safe and secure voting experience for all Americans. Since 2020, this civic holiday has brought together nonprofits, business leaders, brands, public officials, and more to honor the election heroes in our communities.
“As the largest grassroots partner of Election Hero Day, the League is proud to take on the stewardship of this important nonpartisan civic holiday to boost election official morale ahead of Election Day,” said Celina Stewart, CEO of the League of Women Voters. “Election heroes are the hardworking public servants and volunteers who power our elections every year, and we are grateful for their dedication to our democracy.”
“Civic Responsibility Project is excited for the League of Women Voters to step into the role of Managing Partner of Election Hero Day,” said Ashley Spillane, director of the Civic Responsibility Project. “The staff and volunteers at the hundreds of Leagues across the country have built strong nonpartisan relationships with election officials who serve voters in their communities and join with hundreds of our partners to uplift election heroes on this holiday.”
This year, Election Hero Day occurs on November 3, 2025, the day before hundreds of local elections take place in communities around the country.
“The League of Women Voters Education Fund works to engage voters and partner with election officials to provide accurate election information all year long,” said Jeanette Senecal, chief of civic learning and impact at the League of Women Voters. “Leading Election Hero Day is another way the League can engage the public in elections and support our systems of democracy.”
By recognizing and celebrating the people who make our elections work, Election Hero Day serves as an important way to humanize and bolster public trust of election systems. In 2020, the League launched the Democracy Truth Project, an effort to combat mis- and disinformation in elections. The organization's stewardship of this vital civic holiday is a natural and important element of that ongoing work.
The League partners with many national organizations for civic holidays. These partners offered their words of support.
"We're thrilled to collaborate once again with our longtime partners at the League of Women Voters as they bring renewed energy to Election Hero Day. With their proven commitment to empowering voters and honoring the election officials who make our democracy possible, we’re confident this important civic holiday will continue to grow and inspire,” said Bryce Bennett, executive director, Vote Early Day.
“For years, Election Hero Day has been the perfect end to the Civic Holiday season, celebrating the trusted community members who ensure the voter journey that begins with National Voter Registration Day and continues through National Voter Education Week and Vote Early Day concludes with secure and accountable elections,” said Eddy Zerbe, deputy director, Students Learn Students Vote Coalition. “In the League of Women Voters, Election Hero Day has a managing partner that has empowered voters to take this journey in thousands of communities nationwide, helping voters of all kinds celebrate the voter journey and build lifelong habits of civic engagement.”
"At Nonprofit VOTE, we’ve seen how civic holidays inspire participation and strengthen our democracy. As the managing partner of National Voter Registration Day, we’re thrilled to see the League of Women Voters take on Election Hero Day. Their long record of empowering voters makes them the right steward for this important day, and together these holidays show how every person and organization can help build a vibrant, inclusive democracy,” said Brian Miller, executive director, Nonprofit VOTE.
