In every election — federal or local, competitive or (seemingly) clear-cut, invigorating or exhausting — Leagues empower voters and defend democracy.
The 2024 election was no exception.
In the leadup to November 5, Leagues dove headfirst into Get Out the Vote (GOTV) action, registering voters, hosting text and phonebanks, and sharing voter information via social media, mailings, radio ads, email, and more. Members and volunteers spent countless hours updating our election information site, VOTE411.org, with breaking news in every state. State Leagues and their partners filed suits to protect voters' rights so their voices would be heard on Election Day.

Pictured above is a snapshot of just a portion of our Leagues' impact, as calculated on November 6. The final impact numbers will be higher, and will be shared in a full report in Spring 2025.
Below, we break down these accomplishments. Calculations were made from January 1 - November 4, 2024.
30 Million Voter Contacts
Leagues connected with voters 30 million times with Get Out the Vote information. This included email, direct mail, social media, textbanks, phonebanks, in-person canvassing, relational organizing, VOTE411, and other forms of marketing such as radio and billboards.
,
,
GOTV messaging encouraged voters to find their personalized election information and make voting plans on VOTE411.
To empower as many voters as possible, GOTV contacts were made in both English and Spanish (see below).
9.38 Million Voters Protected Via Litigation
In anticipation of the 2024 election, Leagues filed and/or joined 53 cases. These included 28 federal cases and 25 state cases.
Of these cases 85% were determined to have a "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" impact. The League’s DEI impact is determined by considering whether the case, claims, or issues in the matter concern historically disenfranchised communities such that a positive outcome would have a positive impact. Historically disenfranchised communities include Black voters, indigenous voters, other voters of color, voters with disabilities, voters with limited English proficiency, LGBTQIA+ voters, and women voters. Several League cases impacted more than one community.

Particularly notable cases included League of Women Voters of Ohio v. LaRose, which centered on protecting voter assistance for voters with disabilities, and Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice v. Allen, which defended naturalized American citizens who'd been unjustly purged from Alabama voter rolls.
9.19 Million People Received Election Info From VOTE411.org
9.19 million people used VOTE411 to register, check their registration, find candidate information, learn their local election rules, learn their polling locations, and more.
League members and volunteers worked tirelessly to keep information current and accurate. This was particularly notable in the wake of numerous natural disasters in October; VOTE411 admins set up alerts in the affected states announcing any changes in the election process for impacted communities.
,
,
VOTE411 also expanded its features this year, debuting financial contribution info for federal candidates and adding information on the ballot notice and cure process in all 50 states and DC.
1.86 Million Voters Reached Through Spanish-Language Ads
Since 13.7% of Americans are Spanish speakers, LWV wanted to ensure we empowered voters in this community.
With VOTE411 fully available in both English and Spanish, Leagues promoted it not only through ads but also through direct and digital mail, organic social media, and more. These efforts included creating Spanish-language Public Service Announcements during both the Primary and General election seasons to ensure culturally relevant outreach that would effectively engage voters.

VOTE411 Covered More Than 55,000 Candidates in Nearly 30,000 Elections
VOTE411 provided personalized information on more than 55,000 candidates and 30,000 federal, state, and local races.
From the presidential race to races for mayor, school board, and more, Leagues reached out to all eligible candidates to speak on voters' most pressing concerns, like the economy and voting rights.
It also covered information on unique ballot measures so voters could learn more before casting their ballots.
Nearly 70,000 Voter-to-Voter GOTV Conversations
One of the most influential ways to make a difference is through direct conversations with people we know and trust, such as family and friends. Knowing this, Leagues incorporated "relational organizing," the act of mobilizing contacts within a person's own network. This strategy empowered Leagues to tap into networks of trusted messengers to help their communities vote!
,
,
Through on-the-ground vote-tripling events and our digital organizing app League in Action, members and supporters held nearly 70,000 direct conversations about all aspects of getting out the vote, from registration to making a voting plan and beyond.
Several of these events were held in partnership with companies like Lush, pictured above.
The above numbers represent early snapshots of our impact, and we expect them to grow as we get more information. Stay tuned to learn more!
