League of Women Voters Announces Grassroots Power Partners for Unite and Rise 8.5 Campaign
WASHINGTON, DC — The League of Women Voters of the United States today announced the launch of its Grassroots Power Partners initiative as part of the Unite and Rise 8.5 campaign. These women-led organizations will work in collaboration with the League to expand civic participation, strengthen community connections, and build a more inclusive democracy at the local and state levels.
Launched in May 2025, Unite and Rise 8.5 is the League’s nationwide initiative to mobilize 8.5 million people in defense of democracy and voter participation. The campaign’s next phase, running from November 2025 through January 2026, focuses on partnership—bringing together trusted community networks to foster resilience, equity, and collective action in the lead-up to the 2026 midterm elections.
"Our Grassroots Power Partners represent the heart of democracy in action," said Celina Stewart, CEO of the League of Women Voters of the United States. "These women-led organizations are building power block by block and community by community. Together, we can amplify the voices of those too often left out of the conversation and move our country closer to a truly representative democracy."
Like the League, each Grassroots Power Partner has state and local chapters ready to collaborate, engage voters, and drive civic participation. By aligning their networks and resources, these partners will help the League reach more communities, deepen trust, and turn shared values into collective impact.
"Democracy is not a spectator sport — it’s a promise we renew together," said Gloria L. Blackwell, CEO of the American Association of University Women. "Through AAUW’s It’s My Vote! campaign and our partnership with the League of Women Voters and NCJW, we’re putting trusted information and practical tools in people’s hands so every woman can show up, speak up, and shape what comes next."
"For more than 130 years, National Council of Jewish Women has mobilized Jewish women and allies to protect rights, promote justice, and strengthen democracy," said Jody Rabhan, Executive Vice President of the National Council of Jewish Women. "Women have always been the driving force for change — the ones who organize, who show up, and who make democracy real. As a Grassroots Power Partner, we are proud to stand with other women-led movements to channel that power toward a more just and inclusive future."
"Starting with our work supporting the Suffragette movement, YWCA has always viewed civic participation as a cornerstone of our commitment to building a world where women, girls, and all people can thrive," said Margaret Mitchell, CEO of the YWCA USA. "For decades, the YWCA network has engaged communities through our nonpartisan YWomenVote Get Out the Vote (GOTV) campaign across the nation. This year, we are thrilled to join forces with our women-led partners to amplify our power and build an even stronger road to justice – together."
Together, these partners will drive a new wave of civic participation, showing how collaboration at the local level fuels lasting democratic change.
