Issues and Program

How Does The League Select Issues for Emphasis?    Issues

In League, Program means the issues that we choose for concerted study, education and action at local, state and national levels. Program can include both education and action.

The Program Planning process is part of what makes the League a grassroots organization; each League member has the opportunity to influence the selection of issues where the local, state, and national League will focus time, talent and money.

Every two years, members of local Leagues engage in Program Planning. Based on the results of this, the Board of Directors makes recommendations to the biennial convention delegates about the program to be adopted for the coming two year period.  The current program is—

Women Power Democracy

  • Democracy Truth Project: Countering mis- and disinformation in our government and advancing better public understanding of the democratic and electoral process.
  • Expand the Franchise: Increasing voter participation through our VOTE411.org platform and voter registration, education, and mobilization programs, with a focus on underrepresented populations and low-propensity voters.
  • Democracy Defense Fund: Protecting voting rights and advancing a more equitable democracy through advocacy and voter protection efforts.
  • People Powered Fair Maps™: Leading with advocacy, public education, and organizing to create fair, transparent, people-powered electoral map-drawing processes and eliminate partisan and racial gerrymandering during 2021 redistricting.
