First Friday: Meet the New Town Clerk

On October 12, 2021, the Town of Lexington announced the appointment of Mary de Alderete as the new Town Clerk. What does the Town Clerk do? What happens at each polling location in Lexington on Election Day? Why is the conduct of elections in Lexington important to the future of American democracy?

These are some of the questions that will be addressed on Friday, April 1, 2022, at 9:30 AM, when our town clerk Mary de Alderete speaks to the League of Women Voters Lexington as part of our First Friday program. Mary de Alderete will introduce herself and talk about her background and the role of the Town Clerk in administering elections in Lexington. She will be joined in her presentation by Marilyn M. Fenollosa, a Lexington Election Official /Assistant Clerk and Inspector since 2012.

Mary de Alderete, Town Clerk of Lexington, has worked in large and small communities, most recently serving as City Clerk for the City of Fitchburg. Previously, she served as Town Clerk in the towns of Carlisle and Lancaster, and also as Assistant Town Clerk in Acton. In addition, she earned the Certified Mass. Municipal Clerk designation from the Mass. Town Clerks Association (MTCA) and the Certified Municipal Clerk designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC). She holds licensures as a Justice of the Peace and Notary Public.

Marilyn M. Fenollosa is a retired attorney who has been an Election Official (Assistant Clerk and Inspector) since 2012.   She has a long history of community involvement in Lexington, including as a member of Precinct 5 Town Meeting, Community Preservation Committee Chair, member Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee and other committees.  Ms. Fenollosa will present a detailed overview of election day at a Lexington poll location.
