Celebrate what it means to be an American! Help us welcome new U.S. citizens at a naturalization ceremony, and feel the joy and gratitude that we might otherwise take for granted by participating in the process of turning immigrants into citizens.

The LWV of Haverhill is again seeking our assistance with Voter Registration at the naturalization ceremony in Lowell, on Wednesday December 5th. Those of us who’ve welcomed these new citizens and helped them register to vote have found it to be a profoundly moving experience. We may register up to 1000 new voters!

We arrive by 9:30 am to set up before the doors open at 10, but if the weather is poor, the candidates are brought inside earlier. LWV volunteers greet citizenship candidates as they enter the hall. We give them VR forms, pens and flags. We briefly review instructions. The actual ceremony does not begin until 12:30 pm but our work starts much earlier. The ceremony ends at 1:30 then we collect the VR forms as they exit the hall. We then sort them by town, to deliver to local town clerks. We leave by 2:30.

If you’d like to join us, please email me at johnsonerry [at] gmail.com, and let me know if you’d like to carpool from my house. Wear comfortable shoes! I plan to leave around 8:15 or 8:30 am. We will be back home around 3:30.

Thank you!
