Beyond the Ballot

Finish the Fight

The Missouri History Museum hosted a webinar with former LWVUS President Dr. Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins about her book The Untold Story of Women of Color in the League of Women Voters. The "Colored League" in St. Louis had 300 members teaching citizenship and registering Africian-American voters in the 1920s.

At the April 17 annual meeting, membership elected Angie Dunlap as President, Nancy Thompson as Vice President, Nancy Price as Secretary. New board members include Sarah Manuel, Dr. Gena McClendon, and Cindy Wunderlich.

Ella Jones shared her vision for the future with League members at the June 17 annual meeting. As the first African-American and first woman elected as Mayor of Ferguson, she said people who aren't satisfied with leadership should register and vote in 2020. “Voting is very, very important.
