Use Your Own Google Analytics

From your League's homepage, you can implement your Google Analytics tracking code to start collecting your site's traffic data. To use this field, you will add your own Google Analytics tracking code (Global Site Tag), allowing you to activate Google Analytics reporting for your MyLO site within 48 hours!

Choose your set of instructions based on your current Google account status. For example, if you already use Google/Gmail but don't yet use Google Analytics, you will start with Path 2.

  1. If you need to set up your Google/Gmail account, start with Path 1.
  2. If you have a Gmail account but are new to using Google Analytics, start with Path 2.
  3. If you use Google Analytics and need to set up a new property, start with Path 3.

Each Path will lead to the Final Steps for pasting in your tracking code (Global Site Tag) to your homepage.

Watch the video This video goes over the steps explained in Path 2 and Final Steps.

About Properties

In Google Analytics, a property refers to a resource associated with a property ID in the tracking code. This means that once you add a property ID into the Google Analytics tracking code that you will add to your MyLO landing page, your League’s site is then considered property. With this property tracked, you will receive performance data for your League’s site.

Final Steps: Add Tracking Code to MyLO Site

With the Global Site Tag generated in a separate tab, it's time to connect it to your MyLO site.

You can also copy the code below to use as your Global Site Tag. Use your property's Tracking ID to replace the crossed out text below:
<!-- Global site tag (gtag.js) - Google Analytics -->
<script async src=""></script>
window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || [];
function gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments);}
gtag('js', new Date());
gtag('config', 'UA-54516992-1');

  1. Open a new tab or window within your browser to go to your League homepage.
  2. While on your League homepage, click ‘New Draft’ (or ‘Edit Draft’ if you have an existing draft).
  3. Scroll down to the section titled Advanced Settings and click to expand.
  4. Find the field labeled Google Analytics Tracking Code and make sure that it is set to "Full HTML (use with care)." This code/tag is considered 3rd party embed code.
  5. From the Analytics tab or window, copy and paste in your site tag code (begins with <!-- Global site tag (gtag.js) - Google Analytics -->).
  6. Scroll to the very bottom to adjust your moderation settings to Published, and save your homepage.
  7. Check your Google Analytics account for real-time tracking! Within the tab you've kept open to your Global Site Tag (gtag.js), check the Status. Under this section, your traffic data will appear right under Receiving traffic in past 48 hours.
