The Destination of the Join Button in the Header

The Destination of the Join Button in the Header

as of November 2019

Purple & Gold Theme only

The purple join button in the header is an automatically generated link that will always go to /your-leagues-path/join, and will always be placed exactly where you see it when your site is set to the Purple & Gold theme. This is not changeable.*

A default Join page is created automatically when your League's site is created, but it must be edited by you to be of any value.

There are, however, a few things that you can change:

  1. You do not need to use the default-generated page. If you want to use a Webform, instead, for example, you can remove the default page and replace it with a new one. Instructions below
  2. You can request that your join link be redirected to a third party URL by emailing that request to support [at] mylo.freshdesk.com

How to replace your default Join page with a new entity you create (such as a Form)

If you want to get rid of the default generated page and use something you create yourself, such as a Form entity (entity is a word we use to refer to any "thing" in your site, such as a page, an event, a file, etc.), you will want to follow the instructions below exactly. The reason for this is that the join button will always link to the path that ends in .../join, and that path is created based on the League + the page title. If a path is already in use (as .../join is when your League site is first created, since we have default content already in existence), then the site will append a "-0" to the path, and your new page would be .../join-0. This would not work.

The steps (FOLLOW THIS ORDER):

  1. DELETE or RENAME the default Join page on your site. You can delete the page by going to "MANAGE CONTENT" under your League Administration Menu.

  2. Create your new content, either a Page or a Form depending on what you want it to be, using the appropriate ADD ___ link from the League Administration Menu in the left sidebar.

  3. Make sure that the TITLE of your new page/form/etc. is Join and doesn't contain any other words.

  4. Save and publish your new piece of content. Check the path in the URL bar of your browser, it should be /your-league-path/join. If this is correct, then your change will work. If it is not, send the path to support [at] mylo.freshdesk.com with as much additional information as you can so that we can help troubleshoot.

* For every immutable rule, there are always options. If you have a good reason to consider customization to this feature, please contact support [at] mylo.freshdesk.com with your specific thoughts and needs, and the MyLO team will discuss with you further.
