Domain Privacy Error? 'HTTPS' Not Working?

Guide: Fixing HTTPS Errors with Redirect.pizza

If your website shows a "Not Secure" warning or an HTTPS error, it usually means your League's domain needs a secure "handshake" to redirect properly to your MyLO site.

Follow these steps to resolve this using a free service called redirect.pizza.

Step 1: Set up the Redirect

  1. Create an account at redirect.pizza.

  2. Create a New Redirect and enter your domain details:

    • Source URL: Enter your domain both with and without "www" (e.g., yourdomain.org and www.yourdomain.org) on separate lines.

    • Destination URL: Enter your full MyLO URL (e.g., https://my.lwv.org/california/your-leaguename).

  3. Save the Redirect. The system will now provide you with two specific pieces of information:

    • An A Record (an IP address).

    • A CNAME Record (usually something like hostname.redirect.pizza).

Step 2: Update Your DNS Settings

Log in to your domain registrar (e.g., Network Solutions, GoDaddy, or Namecheap) and navigate to the DNS Management or Advanced DNS section.

  1. Lower the TTL (Time to Live): If possible, set the TTL for your records to 5 or 15 minutes. This helps the changes take effect much faster.

  2. Update the A Record: Find the record with the @ host and change the IP address to the one provided by redirect.pizza.

  3. Update the CNAME Record: Find the record for the www host and point it to the hostname provided by redirect.pizza.

Note: If you see existing records pointing to an old IP address (like one starting with 52.), these are the ones you need to replace.

Step 3: The "Waiting Game" (Propagation)

DNS changes are not instant. It can take anywhere from a few hours to 48 hours for the new settings to spread across the internet.

  • Don't Panic: You might see a brief period where the site is unreachable or the error message changes. This is a normal part of the "propagation" process.

  • Check Your Progress: You can use a tool like whatsmydns.net to see if your new records are showing up globally.

  • Clear Your Cache: Once the records look correct, clear your browser history or use an Incognito/Private window to test the site.

Quick Troubleshooting Tips

  • Still seeing the old site? Your computer might be "remembering" the old settings. Try checking the site on a different device or a mobile phone using cellular data.

  • Path Forwarding: Ensure "Path Forwarding" is disabled in redirect.pizza unless you have specific sub-pages that need to map directly to the same sub-pages on the new site.
