Ulster County REDUCING THE SIZE OF THE LEGISLATURE 12-10-19

Ulster County REDUCING THE SIZE OF THE LEGISLATURE 12-10-19

Time Range For Action Alert:
December 6, 2019 to December 10, 2019

On the schedule December 10th is Local Law #11 To Reduce the Size of the Ulster Legislature to 21 Members.

The only reason for this change that I've heard in the meetings I've attended is to make it easier to override an Executive veto. This is not a good reason. County lines will have to be redrawn to accommodate this, and there's the census to take into consideration. There was discussion of eventually lowering the number to 15, again with a solid two-thirds override made simpler. Reducing the size of the legislature may or may not be a good thing, but the reasoning behind this is unacceptable.

I'll have a few words to say about this.  Hope to see you there.
