November Book: Brown: The Last Discovery of America, by Richard Rodriquez.  From the onset form of his anglicized name, the author deals in all his works with all the implications of finding his own identity in a world hostile to anything that isn't white. in Brown, the author introduces a complex thesis that the future of America will be brown not white or black. He uses brown not in the sense of pigment, but rather as a color that entails the mixture of races and experiences.

Born Ricardo Rodriguiez of Mexican parents, the third of four children, he began his American experience studying English at a Catholic school with Irish nuns where he became Richard. Brown is his third book of a trilogy where he brings out all the conflicts of being born Hispanic in a society that refuses to recognize the valuable historical influence which it has brought to this American society.
