Students Inside Albany

The League of Women Voters of the Rivertowns is looking for nominations of local high school students for our League to send to the 19th annual Students Inside Albany (SIA) conference this spring.

The SIA conference is an exciting, interactive opportunity for students to see first-hand what it means to engage in representative government. The conference, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of New York State Education Foundation, Inc., brings together high school students from across the state to learn about New York State government and the process by which citizens can participate in the policy-making arena. As part of this program, students will also tour the Capitol, and observe both the Senate and Assembly in action by spending an afternoon shadowing their legislator.

This year’s SIA Conference will be held May 19th-22nd, 2019 in Albany. Students are sponsored by one of the 50 local League of Women Voters throughout New York State. All their expenses are covered, including travel and three nights at the Hampton Inn in Albany. Participants will also receive a student membership in the League of Women Voters of the Rivertowns, which includes an e-mail newsletter and invitations to meetings on government related topics. Of the students nominated, our League will award one to two students the opportunity to attend this spring’s Conference. Applications for nominations are due to us via email by February 11, 2019. The selected student will be notified by the end of February, and the program itself will run from May 19th-22nd, 2018.
