A Republican Candidates Forum will be held in White Plains on Tuesday June 2, 2020. A Democratic Candidates Forum in White Plains is scheduled for Monday June 8, 2020. Both Forums will be held at the White Plains Church Street Elementary School, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

A Democratic primary Candidates Forum will be held in Ossining, NY on Tuesday June 9, at the Ossining Public Library, 7:00 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Candidates whose names appear on the official New York State Democratic or Republican primary election ballot will be invited to participate in their respective party’s Candidates Forum. In accordance with FEC rules, a Forum will be held only if there are two or more candidates on the primary ballot.

The New York 17th Congressional District covers parts of central and northwestern Westchester county, and all of Rockland county. Nita Lowey, who is retiring at the end of her term, currently represents the district. Early voting in primaries is from Saturday June 13 through Sunday June 21. Primary Election Day is Tuesday June 23.

White Plains LWV president and Westchester LWV executive committee member, Stephen Cohen, said, “the League’s Candidates Forums are an important opportunity for the residents of the 17th Congressional District to hear from all the candidates in the primaries on important issues in a calm, respectful, non-partisan environment that encourages civil discourse”.

The League of Women Voters takes no position on candidates for public office or on political parties. The League works to encourage the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understandingof major policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
