Path 3: Set Up Property in Google Analytics

You need Edit Permission on the account to add properties. To set up a property:

  1. Sign in to Google Analytics. This link will open in a new window.
  2. Click AdminGoogle Analytics - Admin button
  3. In the ACCOUNT column, use the menu to select the account to which you want to add the property. If you have a lot of accounts, use the search box to help you find the right one. If you need to create an account, follow the steps provided in section, Create New Account. OR...
  4. Check that you've selected the correct account in the ACCOUNT column. In the PROPERTY column, select Create new property from the menu. If you don't have Edit permission on the account, you won't see the Create new property option.

Property setup

  1. Within the Property details, enter a Property name. This should represent the online property that you are trying to measure (i.e. LWV Demo County, or MyLO site). 
  2. Adjust the Reporting Time Zone settings if needed, but it should be set to your time zone. 
  3. Select Show advanced options then activate the setting to create a Universal Analytics property. This format is compatible with your MyLO site.
    1. Website URL:
      1. Make sure "https://" is selected.
      2. Copy & paste the URL from your MyLO site, leaving out "https://" (i.e. https://my.lwv.org/california/demo-county).
    2. Select Create a Universal Analytics property only.
  4. Select Next.

About your business

  1. Select an Industry Category that best fits the site’s organization. When you select an industry category, you can use goal templates designed for your industry.
  2. Answer the optional question about how you intend to use Google Analytics with your League.
  3. Click Create.

Now that the account and property have been created, your global site tag is ready to be added to your MyLO site.

  1. Check/un-check the optional email settings within the pop-up window.
  2. The Global Site Tag (gtag.js) will be under that pop-up window. This is the code you'll copy to add to your homepage (begins <!-- Global site tag (gtag.js) - Google Analytics -->).
  3. Keep this tab open to confirm you've successfully added your site tag code using the Status.
