Join us thismonth in welcoming Meckelenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden.

The program is free but we ask the you let us know you are coming by Registering for the event. You are welcome to bring you lunch or order lunch for $10. All lunch orders must be placed by September 9th at 12:00pm

Sheriff McFaddenSheriff McFadden was elected to the sheriff's position on December 4th, 2018, the 45th Sheriff of Mecklenburg County. In Mecklenburg County, the sheriff runs the jail, oversees security at the courthouse and serves court papers. The Mecklenburg County Sheriff serves a 4 year term. 

Sheriff Garry L McFadden is a thirty-six-year veteran of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department ("CMPD") and is one of the most decorated law enforcement officers in the history of CMPD. He spent thirty years as a detective and twenty years in the homicide unit. During that time, he worked on more than 800 homicides of which 90% were solved. After a stellar career, Sheriff McFadden retired from CMPD on July 31, 2011 and was immediately rehired by the City of Charlotte to work in the Office of the Chief to the Community Relations Unit to help implement programs within the community. Sheriff McFadden is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University.

Sheriff McFadden has received many accolades and awards. To name a few: 

  • Medal of Valor, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department; 
  • Law Enforcement Commendation Medal, The National Society of The Sons of The American Revolution;
  • Community Relations Award and Recognition-Charlotte Observer Newspaper 
  • 2011 Chief of Police Outstanding Service Award -Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department
  • Distinguished Service Award for Homicide Investigation-Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1996 and 2011
  • 2014 Who' Who Award - Community Service Lee County South Carolina. 
  • 2015 Charlotte Citizen of The Year- Mayor's Office City of Charlotte 
  • 2017 "You Make the Difference Award" for his with Black Mental Health 
  • 2018 NAACP - Lee County South Carolina Branch Community Service Award 
  • 2018 The White Dove Founders Award from MoMO- work in the Community against Violence & the Cops & Barbers Initiative
  • 2018 The Outstanding Civic Leader Award - Omega Psi Phi- Pi Phi Chapter
