League of Women Voters - Irving
The Irving League was founded in 1957 and became a certified LWV-US league in 1959. Following the path of all Leagues, it is strictly a nonpartisan political organization that does not support or oppose candidates or political parties. It does encourage the informed and active participation of citizens in their government, and works to influence public policy through education and advocacy. Any U.S. citizen of voting age is eligible to become a member.
The Irving League of Women Voters of Irving was founded in 1959, and since that time has provided:
- Voters Guides and Candidate Forums for City Council and School board elections for a minimum of 39 local elections.
- Voters Guides for national/state elections, and primary and general elections.
- For some elections, Voter Guides were published in cooperation with other area Leagues including Dallas, Denton, Richardson, and Plano. In 2002 the Irving League, in cooperation with the Dallas, Richardson, and Plano Leagues, produced our FIRST electronic Voters Guide covering some of the state and county races.
In support of a major tenet of the League, it continues to actively register voters at city events, local businesses, North Lake Community College and the Immigration Naturalization Office.
After intensive studies of areas impacting the health and welfare of Irving's citizens, the League reached consensus and took action by testifying before Irving's City Council and Irving's Independent School District.

- A regional transportation system (DART)
- A center for domestic violence victims
- A manageable number of students in class rooms
- Safety on school buses
- A first class public library
