INACTIVE STATUS

The League of Women Voters of Irving supports the following measures to improve floodplain control in Irving:

  1. Adoption of a city ordinance regulating floodplain development which encourages "green belt" development in the floodplains or when not feasible, specifies restrictive zoning in the floodplains.
  2. Freeze of further building in floodplains until such an ordinance is passed.
  3. Improved maintenance of the creek channels by the city through proper weed control and elimination of obstruction to water flow.
  4. Compliance with present city ordinance prohibiting dumping in the creeks.

In the 1988 local position overview, action on item two and update on items three and four were recommended by the membership.
